btw, you might have noticed this was a "soft" release.  Brian needed
to get these changes into the Ubuntu packages, and we wanted to get
the performance increases into the hands of the people who need them. 
But I also didn't really want to set up another release on the old
site since it is finally dying tomorrow and the new site has much
better release management.  So you should see the release on the new
site tomorrow (more on that in a later email).
