[schooltool-dev] Installing the development environment

Greetings List, nice to meet you all.

I am in Cambodia and I am looking for School Administration software 
that is easy to use. I've downloaded and tried several packages, but 
would not really recommend any of them.

I am using Ubuntu 8.04, an I am trying to install the developer version 
of SchoolTool, but I am running into a few problems.

I have installed the SchoolTool release version. Also, the available 
bandwidth here is pretty limited - which may have something to do with it.

Anyway - using the instructions on the page "Your Development 
Environment" 
(http://www.schooltool.org/documentation/setting-up-a-development-server/your-development-environment) 
I get to step 4. When I run

sudo make ubuntu-environment

I get :

Step 5: Running make gives me:

Installing schooltool.stapp2008spring.

Then a load of errors that fill the terminal and end with

src/lxml/etree.c:52944: error: ‘__pyx_f_5etree__xslt_doc_loader’ 
undeclared (first use in this function)
error: Setup script exited with error: command 'gcc' failed with exit 
status 1
An error occured when trying to install lxml 1.3.6.Look above this 
message for any errors thatwere output by easy_install.
While:
   Installing schooltool.stapp2008spring.
   Getting distribution for 'lxml==1.3.6'.
Error: Couldn't install: lxml 1.3.6
make[1]: *** [buildout] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/don/schooltool.stapp2008spring'
make: *** [build] Error 2


I have tried to find the source debs for python modules and have tried 
make clean and starting again from step 4.

Maybe I need to download manually and install from local files?

Any help would be useful. We be making some choices later this month 
that will have long term implications on what software gets recommended 
and translated etc.
